Restricting
Principle:607. Things cannot disperse forever. Thus, after Dispersing, Restricting follows.
<Significance of the Gua>:
600. If there is too much water, one needs to take precautions against its flooding. If there is too little, one should be concerned about possible drought. Therefore, the peaceful ristriction means to strike a balance between excess and insufficiency and brings success, but the painful and bitter restriction for long time period results in misfortune.
<Significance of the Yao>:
First Nine:601. Although you are able to stand out among fellows, you should understand that it's not yet appropriate for you to do so during a time of restriction. Please restrain yourself and act cautiouly, not going beyond your courtyard. Then, there will be no fault.
Second Nine:602. It's time to go out to do something. But, if you are of so negative attitude as to restrict yourself inside the shell and hesitate to crack it, you will lose the chance. There will be misfortune.
Third Six:603. The excess has already reached the limit. If you don't care about the situation, you will lament and sigh in the end. You create your own reality. There is no one else to blame.
Fourth Six:604. You seem to be gentle and docile, and follow the way the leader adopted. You understand the situation of restriction, accepting the restriction without having to make an effort. Everything will be smooth and prosperous.
Fifth Nine:605. You, as a leader of supreme position, seem to accept the situation of restriction pleasantly. You practice frugality and encourage people to live a thrifty life. Good fortune will prevail. Advancing the practice will bring esteem.
Top Six:606. Excessive restriction makes one feel pain. Overdoing and being stubborn will bring misfortune and regret. However, the excessive restriction sometimes means to penetrate one's will, then the regret will disappear.
